Quake 3 został przeprogramowany na Androida. Projekt dostępny do na mobilną platformę firmy Google nazwany został kwaak3 i jest już dostępny do pobrania.
Port Quake 3 na Androida został przygotowany przez użytkownika Thunderbird2k. Ze strony internetowej projektu możemy dowiedzieć się m.in. o pobudkach twórcy stojących za stworzeniem kwaak3. Thunderbird2k pisze, iż wcześniej widział już grę Quake dostępną dla iPhone oraz Nokii N900, więc sam, po otrzymaniu Motoroli Milestone (DROID w Stanach Zjednoczonych), zdecydował się stworzyć coś takiego dla Androida.
To, czym twórca może pochwalić się na obecną chwilę, jest obsługa dźwięków, sprzętowe obliczenia zmiennoprzecinkowe na urządzeniach Neon-capable. Do sterowania grą można używać zarówno klawiatury, jak i ekranu dotykowego czy też trackballa. Renderowanie obrazu odbywa się przy pomocy OpenGL. Gra korzysta z plików libcgamearm.so, libqaarm.so, libuiarm.so zoptymalizowanych pod architekturę ARM.

w 1999r quake3 wyciągał mi tyle samo FPS, co teraz na telefonie komórkowym. dopiero po solidnym cięciu konfigu udawało się wycignąć 42fps w timedemo ;]

Swoją drogą 14fpsów to troszkę przy mało. Na pewno czuć brak płynności. Ciekawe, czy są to wartości maksymalne, czy średnie.
benchmark był robiony na domyślnych ustawieniach w timedemo. spokojnie można podkręcić wydajność kombinując z konfigiem. fps powinny skoczyć około 30%. do gry może się nie nada, ale np. do oglądania meczu przez GTV jak najbardziej.
Na noki N82 jest grubo ponad 30fps

Jailbreakowanie iPhone'a jest duzo prostsze.
Dziwne …. ja tylko wrzucam plik z aplikacją na kartę sd, klikam na niej spod dowolnego managera plików i wybieram opcję "instaluj".
Dodam, że uprzednio trzeba zaznaczyć jednego "ptaszka" w ustawieniach pozwalającego na instalację z nieznanych źródeł.

Jeszcze się nie spotkałem, żeby któryś operator to blokował. Więc nie wiem skąd masz takie fantastyczne informacje.
@trasz, w Play nie jest blokowany – sprawdziłem. W której sieci jest zablokowany? Mógłbyś podać źródło?
@trasz to kompletna bzdura to co piszesz, wystarczy włączyć jedną opcję w ustawieniach, co z resztą sam zasugeruje telefon przy próbie wgrania jakiejkolwiek aplikacji z karty SD, żaden operator nie blokuje takiej opcji, powtarzam żaden ! Zapraszam do poczytania sobie dokładniej co to jest SDK. To co podałeś jest jedną z możliwości instalowania aplikacji bez odblokowywania telefonu, co z resztą po zainstalowaniu SDK sprowadza się jedynie do wpisania komendy w terminalu "adb install nazwa.apk".

Myślę, że telefony z Androidem można podzielić na dwie kategorie – Motorola Droid i reszta. Jeśli chodzi o granie, to będzie się trzeba przyzwyczaić.
Że jak? Skąd ten podział? Bo chyba nie wydajnościowo? Jeśli jednak tak, to zapomniałeś o Nexus One, który to wydajnościowo mocno przerasta Droida.

Ja tam mam Milestone'a i nie narzekam jakoś bardzo na płynność – 20fps może nie powala ale nie jest najgorzej. Prawdziwym minusem jest sterowanie, bo praktycznie uniemożliwia gre.

Jak on to włączył na hero z androidem 2.0 (bo tylko na tą wersje jest port)skoro nie ma oficjalnego wydania, a na "homemade" są problemy z akceleracją 3D O_o
