Autorzy wypowiedzieli się, że to tylko chwilowe(tymczasowe) rozwiązanie, gdyż nie działa zbyt wydajnie. Jednak, dzięki takiej architekturze, udało im się coś takiego zrealizować w możliwie najkrótszym czasie.

FreeCiv jest tak złożoną i rozbudowaną grą, że rozgrywka to bardziej dość konkretna praca, niż zabawa…

Aha, i jeszcze te "cudowne strategie"… cóż to za gra, gdzie można wygrać jedynie w dość ściśle określony, schematyczny i sztampowy sposób?
1) Mam pokój z gościem, a on mi włazi jednostkami w zasięg mojego miasta. I tak zwykle siedzi…Radziłem sobie w ten sposób, że budowałem miasta typu "przedmurze", ale nie zawsze jest na nie miejsce. Inna metoda to poustawianie wartowników, ale w fazie przedindustrialnej się nie da (bez women's suffrage i dużej produkcji by utrzymać jednostki).
2) Jednostki są zbyt kosztowne. To rzutuje na dwa aspekty
a) Bez atomówki zdobycie jednego dużego miasta wymaga poświęcenia jednostek produkowanych przez kilka dużych miast przez wiele, wiele tur. Poza tym wkurza, gdy taki battleship robiony przez 20 tur pada w losowym starciu z jakimś maluszkiem.
b) Strasznie późno poznajemy pełną geografię globu, bo nie ma sił na odkrywanie.
3) AI komputera wchodzi w stany wojen i pokoju od czapy, bez żadnej motywacji. Nie jest też przewidywalny jego rozwój. Może mieć rydwany by w krótkim czasie wyciąć numer i polecieć w kosmos.
4) Wyścig w kosmos. Jak już koleś zacznie budować statek, a był do tej pory nietknięty, to są małe szanse by mu budowę wyperswadować. Chyba, że zmasowanym atakiem atomowym i wejściem czołgów. Zajęcie jego stolicy pomaga, ale doraźnie.
Mam oczywiście na myśli poziom King i Emperor.
Ideałem byłaby dla mnie gra podobna wizualnie do CIV1, ale bez tych błędów. Jeśli wziąć pod uwagę multiplayer, to wypadałoby usunąć dużą asymetrię cudów świata. To zadziwiające, ze w 1991 komuś się udało stworzyć coś tak fajnego. Rozpisałem się o błędach, ale to są błędy czysto gameplayowe.
Pytanie do fanów CIV1. Ten idiotyczny global warming, to od pollution czy po prostu tak ma być? Chodzi mi o to czy naparzając nukami sobie go sprowadzam
Z tym "włażeniem jednostkami" można sobie również robiąc "ziemię uprawną" tam, gdzie nie życzymy sobie obcych, oraz (w widoku miasta) każąc ją wykorzystać. Wtedy konkurent wlezie tam jedynie w razie wojny. Wyjątek: wybrzeże. Niestety – nawet na uprawne i zajęte wybrzeże bezczelnie się właduje. Wtedy albo go wytłuc – albo przekupić.
Z pozostałymi uwagami się zgadzam – zapewne Sida goniły terminy, i już tak zostało… bo nawet z tymi wadami jest wiele zabawy. Dość irytująca jest w grze pochwała demokracji – jako ustroju, gdzie W OGÓLE nie ma korupcji.
Tak: "global warming" w grze bierze się albo ze zbyt wysokiej ilości zanieczyszczeń, gdy jest już wysoki poziom produkcji i spora populacja miasta (trzeba usuwać brudy, i raczej unikać energetyki węglowej), albo ze zbyt częstego "nukowania" – bo też i po każdym "grzybie" pozostają zanieczyszczenia…
Ja pamiętam inny błąd z CIV1. Ze dwa razy zdarzyło mi się, że zająłem czyjeś ostatnie miasto, i NIE dostałem komunikatu "X civilization destroyed by Y". To niestety prowadziło do sytuacji patowej – gry nie dawało się wygrać (przynajmniej militarnie), bo wroga cywilizacja istniała nadal – z populacją 0 (co zweryfikowałem w statystykach po wpisaniu jakiegoś cheat code'u).
Skoro masz pokój, to ustaw dyplomatów (lub karawany) – równie dobrze blokują przejście, a nie kosztują utrzymania, ani nie powodują niezadowolenia.
Albo zagraj w Civ2, w której możesz poprosić przeciwnika o wycofanie się…
Dyplomacja w Civ1 była jednak za mało rozbudowana.
Znowu Civ2 załatwiła nieco ten problem (energia jednostek). Rzeczywiście w Civ1 miasto z City Walls i kilkoma obrońcami było trudne do zdobycia. Co z drugiej strony było fajne – w początkach swojej przygody z Cywilizacją udało mi się ostro dostać w tyłek, ale budując City Walls na pograniczu Azji i Afryki byłem w stanie odbić się od dna zajmując całą Afrykę dla siebie.
AI to chyba najtrudniejsza rzecz do zaprogramowania. We Freeciv zawsze wkurzało mnie, że przeciwnicy nie za bardzo chcą się wymieniać technologiami, ani mapami.
Jakość kodu Freeciv jest chyba jednak dość słaba. W Civ 1 i 2 można było namieszać w exe'kach, czy rules'ach i wszystko dobrze działało (trochę AI nie kapował, że sytuacja się zmieniła, ale trudno się temu dziwić). A jak we Freeciv zmieniłem jakieś mało istotne ustawienia (chyba startowe technologie), to od razu się wysypał.
Well, dla mnie ideałem byłby Master of Magic bez błędów.
@M-Z. Właśnie o tej sytuacji myślałem: Gdy obce wojska wchodzą z morza to ignorują traktat pokojowy. Grywałem na wygenerowanym świecie gdzie linia brzegowa potrafi być bardzo długa, a ląd dość cienki – taka "uroda" generatora i dlatego narzekałem na te wizyty. Pomysł ze stawianiem dyplomatów i karawaną – ma to swoje zalety, ale to dość łatwy łup dla wałęsających się okrętów.
LOL! Oczywiście, że to do Nuke'ów. We Freeciv jest chyba rozróżnienie – zanieczyszczenia przemysłowe (Pollution) powodują Global Warming, a Nuke'owe (Fallout) powodują Nuclear Winter (Tundra+Arctic).
No tak, ale nie mam pewności czy nuke daje jedynie kilka pól z tradycyjnym pollution czy ponadto sam z definicji je sprowadza. Bo jeśli tylko tradycyjne pollution, to nasuwa się prosta taktyka: nuke + 3-4 settlersów + ochrona settlersów (może być częsciowo z powietrza). I masz każde miasto
"Settlerów" – nie "settlersów"; inaczej powstaje dziwaczna "liczba mnoga liczby mnogiej".
